Analysing Horror Film Trailers - Introduction

Now I have a much better understanding of the conventions of the horror genre, and the general conventions of different styles of trailers (such as theatrical trailers, teaser trailers and TV spots) I am going to have a closer look at some trailers from the horror genre.

My aim is to see how conventions of the genre are presented within trailers, so that I can identify similarities across trailers for the genre. This will help me to make some decisions about exactly what to include in my trailers so that they are authentic representations of the style and structure of existing horror film trailers.

I am going to analyse the trailers for the following horror films:

'Smile' (2022)

'M3GAN' (2023)

'Drag Me to Hell' (2009)

'The Unborn' (2009)

'The Black Phone' (2022)
